Short Notices – What They Are

Short Notices
It is common practice in academic journals to include a section of ‘Short Notices’. These are brief abstracts, reviews, announcements, etc. that do not belong in the highly formal main section i.e. as properly structured papers, but which are still worth bringing to the reader’s attention. They often give notice of forthcoming papers or results (partly to establish precedence, which is very important in academia), or announce other publications, such as reviews or collections of papers.

I am going to adopt and adapt the practice here on my blog, and I hope you find them interesting. Sometimes it is better to get a topic out in public while it is still topical, and some topics do not require a full-length essay. Also, given today’s attention span deficits, and the deluge of written matter threatening to drown-out all thought, I think the maximum brevity is essential to getting your attention, and keeping it for long enough to convey my message.

Enjoy!
