A little image I created back in November 2019, in anticipation (and disgust) of the usual unhygienic pox party that is Christmas. With my COPD, a cold usually means weeks of paroxysmal coughing, further damaging my lungs, while lying on the floor unable to get up and gasping desperately for air. All because people behave with a cavalier disdain for basic infection control, like the callous plague rats they are.
The prospect of another year’s flu season and the continued evil bullshit of anti-vaxxers (cunts – there’s no other word for them) were also very much on my mind. Given that the first reports of Covid-19 were still more than a couple of months away, it seems almost prescient now.[1]
The joke I was making was that if I were the Evil Genius running Big Pharma’s marketing departments I would be pumping money into promoting Christmas, and doing all I could to encourage people to get together to celebrate the festival.
There’s nothing like Christmas (and other festivals – depending on your fairy tale of choice) for spreading disease. Getting lots of people to travel across the country and even around the globe, huddling together with strangers on public transport and in the shops, all so they could spend lots of time together in close proximity, in rooms unventilated because of the weather, with lots of hugging and kissing to share the bodily fluids. That is a great way to make sure you spread all the pathogenic bacteria and viruses among your friends and relatives (especially the young and elderly with their less effective immune systems), and thereby really boost sales of pharmaceutical products of all kinds. It might almost have been invented by pathogens for their own benefit, but of course, they are merely exploiting our ignorance and stupidity through the blind watchmaker of evolution.
Of course, only a paranoid fuckwit with no understanding of how things work in the real world would imagine this is anything but a satirical joke.
